The political action of the Eixo Atlántico, as a cross-border urban system of the Galicia North Euroregion of Portugal, is based on two pillars: on the one hand the political lobby that is based on the consensus decision making of the cities and solid reports and rigorous that sustains the lobbying action. On the other hand, in the development of services that generate critical mass and that by their configuration in network or by scale many of the municipalities individually could not generate them. In this respect we are therefore a Euroregional development agency.
One of the main strategic lines is mobility, not only because of our privileged position in the Atlantic, which clashes with our peripheral character in Europe, but also because without mobility there is no economic development or configuration as an urban system.
From there, we can face other development strategies based on the fight against endemic natural catastrophes in our territory, such as fires, to promote external action in the world, especially in Europe and Latin America, or to develop environmental programs, cultural, sports or very especially tourist.
The concept of "two countries a destination", now very widespread, marks the philosophy of our intervention in the field of tourism; the creation of the Mercosur Parliament in Montevideo in 2019, marks our actions in foreign action by promoting cross-border cooperation and our support and technical assistance to Latin American counterparts; the contribution of proposals to community policies determines the scope of our lobbying action in Brussels.
The elaboration of the first cross-border urban agenda in Europe, as well as its action plan framed within the objectives of the UN 2030 agenda, determines our scope of joint planning for the urban system.
