It was born in 2009 in order to promote culture in all its expressions in the cities of the Eixo Atlântico, always counting on the cultural presence of the countries historically linked to Portugal and Galicia. Transverse to all cultural areas, the Capital of culture of the Eixo Atlântico promotes every two years the artists of the Euro-region.

Since 1995, the Games of the Eixo Atlântico have been designed to promote sport, coexist among young people and also to improve knowledge among the citizens of both regions. They are held every two years and constitute a unique cross-border sporting event in Europe, with a participation of 1500 to 2000 athletes from 36 Local Authorities.

Conscious that culture has a central place in the construction and development of the Euro-region and its urban system, the Eixo Atlântico Biennial Painting is one of the most beloved, most successful and participative programs.

This program, which has existed for more than 20 years, stimulates artistic creation, enabling both cultural exchange and the knowledge of artists, which in the peninsular northwest constitute an extraordinarily lively and dynamic contribution in the European cultural panorama.

In addition, the Portuguese - Galician New Talent Prize aims to stimulate the effort and creativity of the young, and that inspires a culturally rich and diverse future.

Since 2008, its aim has been to recognize, promote, reward and disseminate the practice of Music by supporting musicians who, for their value and interest, can contribute to the diffusion of the taste for Music from Galicia and Northern Portugal, favoring innovation, quality, interaction and renewal in the musical landscape of the Eixo Atlántico.

Each edition brings together about 300 students from the music schools and conservatories of the cities of the Eixo Atlântico.

Expocidades, Tourist Show of the Cities of the Eixo Atlântico is a tool to promote proximity tourism to the cities of the Eixo Atlântico.

It aims to promote our cities in their immediate market environment, as well as to favor the direct relationship between tourism producers (rural tourism, nature tourism programs, adventure tourism programs, etc.) and marketers (travel agencies and operators).

The Eixo Atlântico has been developing sports tournaments in various modalities with fixed venues in some of its cities:

The Eixo Atlântico, through the Urban Ecology Agency, develops projects for cities and cities and ember entities that aim at the direct or indirect performance of actions aimed at sustainable development, focusing in particular on local sustainability, sustainable land planning, energy efficiency, in the prevention and management of waste and actions to mitigate climate change and its consequences.

The Eixo Atlântico works in the field of Innovation by organizing training sessions on the areas of greatest interest to its associates as well as producing strategic documents and implementation manuals that are useful for their municipalities

It also organize thematic conferences on topics of interest to its members in order to find common solutions.
